The Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences trains graduates with solid theoretical-methodological knowledge in communication sciences with emphasis on a critical approach to semio-discursive and intercultural phenomena.
The Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences had already been accredited in the period 2013-2018, so this new accreditation endorses the work that has been done and is demonstrated by the large number of students who have graduated from the program. The history of the Master in Communication Sciences dates back to its creation in 1993 and is the second oldest graduate program of our university (along with the Master in Social Sciences) which sheds light on the importance of the social sciences and humanities in both the initial and current development of the Universidad de La Frontera.

The Master in History aims to train specialists in research capable of understanding, interpreting and analyzing historical phenomena. To achieve this purpose, the program provides a theoretical and methodological training that allows deepening historical knowledge in specific areas, stimulates the capacity for historical research, the dialogue with other branches of the humanities and social sciences and instructs in the management of sources and bibliography.
The graduate of the Master’s program in History of the Universidad Andrés Bello possesses disciplinary knowledge that dialogues with current historiographical trends and allows him/her to analyze the new problems posed by history today. They acquire advanced methodological skills in research, delivered through the different approaches established by the curriculum, being able to produce new scientific knowledge.
The graduate develops research work in the areas of History of Chile and Latin America, considering the colonial and republican contexts, either autonomously or collaboratively. In addition, he/she displays a capacity for reflection and logical-argumentative reasoning for the study of historical processes and problems in the socio-cultural, economic and political spheres.

The program is taught jointly by the Universidad de Valparaíso (UV) and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV). The units in charge of the program at each institution are the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Natural Resources at UV and the School of Marine Sciences at PUCV. Applicants to the program enter as regular students at one of the participating institutions. The procedures for application, selection, admission and obtaining the degree are in accordance with the regulations of the university in which they enroll. The program is an evening program and lasts four academic semesters. The maximum period for obtaining the degree is six semesters.
The mission of the Master in Oceanography is to train highly qualified graduates in oceanography, to contribute to the development of scientific and applied research for the best use and conservation of marine ecosystems and their resources.
